This week we went to Magna Science Adventure Centre and learnt about earth, fire, air and water, which included a bit of rocket science and astronomy!

*Hotel Flamingo - a story for young, confident readers who love animal stories and strange capers...

*The Best Sleepover in the World - the newest book from Jacqueline Wilson
*Supertato - always a funny and vegetabulous superhero story

We've just received this beautiful book about shyness - called The Shy Book.
It's written by Howard Pearlstein and illustrated by James Munro, and it tells the tale of a book who is really shy and nervous.
It sits on the shelf worried that no one will want to read it, and that they will find it boring and uninspiring.
It's a delightful book, helping children to work through feelings of anxiety and worry, and helping them to learn about gaining confidence in themselves and ability to be liked.
Definitely one for the book shelf!
Publisher information:
Fun and colourful illustrations by Liverpool-based James Munro perfectly represent the book’s various emotions throughout, creating a relatable character for

We were sad to hear that Jeremy Strong has died, aged 74.
His last book, Fox Goes Norht, is published by Scholastic in October.
Catherine Bell, Scholastic's MD, said: "Jeremy was a wonderful writer who did so much to inspire and engage children with books and reading for sheer joy of it. Starting his career as a primary school teacher, Jeremy became a brilliantly talented storyteller whose empathy, warmth and humour always shone through his work, often using his teaching experiences to great humorous effect.
"The Hundred-Mile-an-Hour Dog and There's a Viking in My Bed have become true classics and continue to find an appreciative audience with children, highlighting how well Jeremy made the connections to things that really delight children.
"More recently, we have been privileged to work on his very last book, Fox Goes North. A beautiful, poignant, and reflective story that is a fitting epitaph to a wonderful career and a life well-lived. Our thoughts are with Jeremy's family at this sad time."

I don't think there's much we can add to that lovely tribute - I've always recommended Jeremy Strong to reluctant readers, readers who don't know where to start with chapter books, readers who enjoy a good belly laugh or silliness.

Children can be anxious and stressed about lots of things - there's a new book called Whispa and the Waves, which has been written to try to help work through those feelings and find the positive.
Written by Ffion Jones, who has done lots of work with seriously unwell children, this one was written with her own daughter's anxieties in mind.
I just find the illustrations (by Elena Mascolo) utterly gorgeous.
