Series Fiction

At age 6 (years 1 and 2 at school), readers are starting to build confidence and can handle longer books with chapters.

This is the age when series fiction is an important and useful tool.
Confidence is built not only by being able to decifer new words and understand paragraphs and storylines (putting emphasis on the correct words in the sentences etc), but also by reading storylines that are familiar.
Each of the series in this section is aimed at helping to build reading confidence by supplying exciting stories: sometimes funny, sometimes adventurous, sometimes scary!

You may already be familiar with some of the series, and wish to build up your collection, or you may be approaching series fiction as a new reader. We hope that we can help you find the right book!
The lists on this page are not always the complete series, so if you want a book that isn't on this page, please email us or phone (05603 125245) and if it's in stock, we can send it straight away!

Fiction 6 upwards

Magic Puppy

by Sue Bentley   £3.99 each

The Magic Puppy series centres on Storm, a young wolf, who is trying to escape the Shadow.
He is magically disguised as a puppy and returns to "the other world" on every journey as he builds up his strength to fight the Shadow.
In the "other world" he meets a child who helps him in his adventure. Each book has a word hidden in it from the letter that Storm's mother wrote him (that was destroyed) and you have to help him find the word to solve the puzzle.

Humphrey by Betty G Birney £4.99 each

Humphrey is the classroom hamster at Longfellow School.
The stories are all written from Humphrey's point-of-view and are funny.
The first in the series won Richard and Judy's Children's Book Award for ages 7+ (the stories are suitable from 6upwards or for confident readers)
