Audio Books

Books on CD are a perfect way to introduce your child to reading without them worrying about whether they're pronouncing the words correctly, or missing bits out.

CDs are great to listen to as a family, or in the car, or as a bedtime read, or when the children are doing chores around the house, or just sitting down and relaxing.

We have listed the CDs in interest age order, but this is not set in stone! The beauty of CDs is that a younger child can listen to books aimed at older children because they don't have to be able to read at that level in order to get the most out of the story. And an older child can listen to a story aimed at younger children if they don't have time to listen to a long story, if they have problems with concentration or with understanding.

Research has shown that children who listen to audio books have better vocabulary than others their age, and better comprehension and ability to construct more complicated sentences.

It's not all educational though! It's great fun to let someone else do all the hard work whilst you listen along and the talented readers on the CDs usually read with such style that you can't help but get caught up in it. There are some dramatised stories in here too, where the story is read by several cast members like a radio play, sweeping you up into the action!
